1) Nearby Denver--has the Denver Center for the performing arts (dcpa.org) which is a wonderful complex that houses multiple theater venues, and has won numerous national awards, inclusive of tonies. Colorado Opera and the Colorado Ballet do performances at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, the symphony performs at Boettcher Hall which is to be remodeled this year, Broadway musicals and plays are staged at Temple Buell hall, and there are 3 smaller theaters for plays, cabaret. One hour drive from Colorado Springs.
2) Summer festivals in Colorado include:
A. Vail--music festival June-August at the Gerald Ford Ampitheater. This summer they will have the New York Philharmonic and Philadelphia symphonies with international soloists as well as a chamber series and dance series. 3 hour drive.
B. Aspen--world renowned Aspen Music Festival June-August with international soloists, quartets, chamber and orchestras at the Aspen Music Tent and Harris Hall. Also, a dance series. 3 1/2 hour drive
C. Central City Opera--the opera house has been there since the 1800s ,3-4 performances every summer, and has been compared to Glynnebourne in the UK. Just west of Denver off I-70.
D. Multiple other summer festivals that are smaller in Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs and Crested Butte.
