About Catheterization Lab Jobs
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is a dedicated service for diagnostic and interventional cardiology. It's also known as the cardiac cath lab. In this department several interventional procedures are preformed on patients who require peripheral diagnostic and acute cardiac care. It is routine to diagnose heart problems as well as repair them in the cath lab.
Cardiac Catheterization is a non surgical procedure and is minimally invasive. It's used to diagnose and treat problems with the heart and arteries. Cardiac Catheterization is sometimes referred to as a heart cath or angiography.
JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Primary responsibility for performing Transthoracic and Transesophageal Echocardiograms and assisting with Cardiac-catheterization with related procedures (including Percutaneous Transluminal Cardiac Angioplasty and Stents, Intra-aortic Balloon Pump, Pacemaker implantation, and programming, Pericardialcentesis). Performs EKG's, Holter monitoring, Exercise Stress Tests, Pharmacologic Stress Testing, Peripheral vascular tests and other diagnostic tests as necessary. Communicates continuously with physician about patient condition. Performs diagnostic tests as necessary. Assists physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures. Operates all equipment safely and correctly. Maintains PAR levels. Ensures the needs of the Cardiology Department including the Cardiac Cath Laboratory, Stress testing and Echocardiogram teams needs are met. Works with the department director in orientation of new employees, input for employee evaluations, development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the department. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Understands and adheres to Radiation Safety policies and procedures when working in radiation controlled areas.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years experience performing echo, stress and Cardiac Cath procedures preferred.
EDUCATION: High School diploma required. Graduate of an accredited school of Cardiovascular technologies and/or 1-3 years experience preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Registered, or registry eligible in Cardiovascular technologies preferred. Current BCLS required. Certified ACLS required within 12 months of hire.

Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations.
