Heart Failure/Transplant Cardiology – 5th Largest Cardiac Transplant Program In The US – Gulf South.

Ochsner Health System, a not-for-profit multi-specialty healthcare delivery system dedicated to patient care, research, and education, seeks a board certified cardiologist with advanced training in heart failure/cardiac transplantation due to growth. Candidates must be UNOS qualified.

Join Hector Ventura, MD, internationally-recognized transplant cardiologist and Associate Editor for Congestive Heart Failure and Hamang Patel, MD in the Ochsner Health System's autonomous Department of Cardiology. The physician's time will be dedicated to the heart failure/cardiac transplant service (i.e., attending and clinic duties). Flexibility exists with the physician's time and can be spent conducting clinical trials/research, teaching fellows, and pursuing other cardiology subspecialties of interest. Leadership opportunity exists for candidates with demonstrated experience in the areas of heart failure, cardiac transplantation, or pulmonary hypertension.

Would you enjoy "the best in professional quality of life" as described by Ochsner Health System's heart failure/transplant cardiologists? The position and organization afford you a superior work life and a collaborative environment with your peers, generous benefits, and the flexibility to sub specialize. In addition, your patients will benefit from innovative services such as home dobutamine infusion, outpatient infusion suites, a heart failure clinic, an emergency department observation unit, a rehabilitation program for patients with heart failure, and a left ventricular device program. In addition, through the advanced heart failure program's participation in investigational drug and device protocols, patients have access to the state-of-the-art in medical and mechanical "bridges" to transplantation. Started in the early '80's, the cardiac transplant program does 15-30 transplants per year and 25 patients are on the waiting list pending organ availability. Total transplant volume is approximately 700 patients. Today, the Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute has two funded fourth-year heart failure/transplant fellowship positions.

The physician will be based at the Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans (Main Campus), a 473-bed acute care hospital, named as a US News and World Report Best Hospital. Ochsner Health System was named to the American Hospital Association's "Most Wired" list for the past four years!

Now is the time to fall in love with New Orleans all over again!

The cultural riches, sensual indulgences, and unparalleled service that define the New Orleans experience continue to flourish, as they have for centuries. The most celebrated and historic core of the city  including the Faubourg Marigny, French Quarter, Central Business District, Warehouse and Arts District, Magazine Street, Garden District, Audubon Park and Zoo, and St. Charles Avenue is thriving.

The historic and cultural experience that has attracted millions of visitors for decades is as rich, charming, and welcoming as ever. It’s no surprise that Orbitz and Travel + Leisure have chosen it as one of their top destinations for 2007 and The Today Show in August 2007 named New Orleans as number two in its America the Beautiful series. Today, the New Orleans population is strong at 72 percent of pre-Katrina, or 327,000 residents.
